Mobile skate park launch

Luton’s mobile skate park was opened by the Mayor, Cllr Doris Hinkley, on Sunday 31st October 2004. Up to 100 young people used their skateboarding skills to test the new facilities.

Cllr Doris Hinkley said “The town has been crying out for a skate park and this initiative is a great start that I’m sure will be well used by young people across Luton”.

The Luton and Bedfordshire Youth Association (LuBYA) has been working on the skate park project for the last couple of years, with the aim of eventually creating a permanent skate park in Luton. The mobile skate park was funded by £15,000 from the Safer Luton Partnership and £5,000 from the Council.

Young people are now forming a management committee, which will make decisions about where and when the skate park facilities will travel around the town.
