Party Conference comes to Luton
Liberal Democrats from across the East of England gathered in Luton on 30th October for the Party’s Regional Conference, which took place at the Luton Sixth Form College. As well as a number of debates, the conference included training sessions and exhibition stalls.
Speakers included Norman Lamb MP, David Rendel MP, Andrew Duff MEP and Lord Tom McNally. Luton councillors David Franks, Qurban Hussain, Abid Hussain and Andy Strange also spoke in the conference debates.
The conference included a consultation session on Aviation. Feedback from this session will be sent to the national party’s aviation policy panel.
A conference motion on Anti-Social Behaviour was proposed by Luton Liberal Democrats. The motion asks Liberal Democrats to adopt a fair, firm but socially inclusive approach to combating anti-social behaviour and to oppose knee jerk reactions from other political parties to local nuisance situations. This motion was agreed (without amendment).
There was a thoughtful debate about the party’s response to the Barker Review of Housing Supply.
Luton Liberal Democrats won Third Prize in the “best Focus leaflets” competition, and Second Prize for “best Members’ newsletter”. Overall it was a very successful day for Luton’s Liberal Democrats!
