Good news for Luton’s town centre

When local people elected the Liberal Democrats to run the Council in Luton, we promised to make regeneration of the Town Centre a priority. Some of the most exciting developments for 40 years are now underway, with more being planned.

Work has now started the new-look St George’s Square. Due for completion this year, the square will be contemporary space and a benchmark for the projects that follow.

The redevelopment of Power Court (near St. Mary’s Church) will enhance the town centre with a stunning set of buildings for shopping and living.

A short distance from the Town Centre, major improvements have taken place in High Town Road and Dunstable Road, Bury Park. Other projects that are currently underway include new homes on the old Luton News site in Castle Street and new apartments in Midland Road.

Cllr Sid Rustein, the Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, commented “There is so much happening that there is now a tangible buzz to the town which has been missing for many years.”
