Cllr Qurban Hussain condems Benazir Bhutto’s assassination
“Benazir Bhutto’s assassination was a cowardly act of terrorism that will be condemned by every peace loving person.” says Cllr Qurban Hussain, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Luton South.
In a statement issued today Cllr Hussain condemned Ms Bhutto’s killing calling it a brutal act of terrorism against peace and democracy. He praised late Ms Bhutto as a brave politician who had dedicated her life to democracy and the people of Pakistan.
Cllr Hussain, who had met Ms Bhutto on a number of occasions, said, “Pakistan has lost a great leader who will be remembered for a long time for fighting for the rights of the people of Pakistan.”
He said his thoughts and sympathy goes to all the people of Pakistan, The Pakistan Peoples Party and most importantly Ms Benazir Bhutto’s family and friends.
“This is a difficult time for Pakistan and I hope that Pakistani people will recover from these crises with a sense of grief in a most responsible way. The international community should lend the help and support that Pakistan needs to tackle the lawlessness and terrorism the country is facing.”
Cllr David Franks, Leader of the Liberal Democrat councillors in Luton said “I am deeply shocked by these tragic events and my thoughts are with Pakistani people all over the world. Whilst the tragedy will understandably release strong emotions we must all try to remain calm and allow the Pakistani authorities to pursue their investigations without the distractions of further unrest.”
