Tory councillors again support plan to build 5,500 houses East of Luton.

“Tories keep saying they are against it yet at every opportunity they vote for it, no Tory Councillor has ever voted against this plan”

Liberal Democrat Luton South Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Qurban Hussain, has slammed the Conservative Party for constantly saying they oppose the plan to build 5,500 new homes on the outstandingly beautiful countryside to the East of Luton when again on Friday (23rd October) their Councillors supported the proposal. All Labour and Conservative Councillors voted against a Liberal Democrat move at the Luton and central Bedfordshire Joint Planning Committee to scrap the idea.

“The Tories’ duplicity takes your breath away,” said Liberal Democrat Qurban Hussain after the vote at Friday’s meeting. “Of the 8,166 individual responses to the Joint Committee’s recent consultation exercise 7,322 were objections to the East of Luton plan. Yet the Tory and Labour Councillors continually ignore the strong local feelings.”

“At least labour Councillors admit they support the proposal and have been consistent in supporting it at Joint Committee meetings. The move to confirm the plan was actually proposed by Labour Councillor Taylor at the meeting on Friday.”

“The Tories keep saying they are against it yet at every opportunity they vote for it, no Tory Councillor has ever voted against.”
