‘Tories split over the East of Luton’ says Qurban Hussain

Two scheduled meetings involving Luton and Central Bedfordshire Councillors have been cancelled as members squabble over whether a plan for 5,500 new homes East of Luton should go ahead. An added complication was introduced when, without any explanation, Luton Council switched from supporting the plan to opposing it.

“Local Tories really need to get their act together” said Liberal Democrat Luton South Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Qurban Hussain. “Whatever they tell us, there is clearly a major split in the Tory Party with some Conservative Councillors saying they are against the East of Luton development plan and some wanting it to go ahead.”

“We had hoped there would be an early meeting of the Joint Committee so the East of Luton plan could be formally dropped and the threat removed. The cancellation of these two meetings makes it hard to see where all this is going and with Tory Councillors facing both ways on the issue we could be left in this uncertain position for some time.”
