Liberal Democrats Call For Council To Declare a Climate Emergency
“With the Extinction Rebellion movement demonstrating in towns and cities all over the country and Luton high school students protesting in our own town centre it’s time the Council took the threat of Climate Change seriously.” – Cllr. David Franks, Liberal Democrat leader of the opposition on Luton Council.
Liberal Democrat Councillors are calling on Luton’s Labour run Council to declare a Climate Emergency and to take urgent action to reduce the town’s carbon footprint. They have put down a motion for debate at the Full Council meeting on Tuesday 30th July asking the local authority to set up an officer and member Climate Emergency Task Force to research what actions other Councils are taking.
“The Task Force also needs to take evidence from local and wider sources, including local schools, colleges and the University, we need to capture the investment and economic opportunity arising from a low carbon future,” says Cllr. David Franks.

“Seeing those protesting high school students with their banners and posters outside the town hall made me feel really proud of our young people. The future is theirs, but only if local, national and international powers that be don’t destroy it.”
Brilliant. Well done you.
